Songfacts®:

  • Chris Brown was only 18 when he released "Kiss Kiss," but he already had a #1 hit under his belt with his debut single, "Run It!" His fast rise and cocky attitude earned him some haters, which he built into the storyline of this song, which finds him getting with a girl willing to tune out that noise.
  • "Kiss Kiss" was Chris Brown's first collaboration with T-Pain, who produced it, co-wrote it with Brown, and features on the track. T-Pain gave it a shot of his signature Auto-Tune, which was novel at the time. He released his heavily Auto-Tuned album Epiphany a few months earlier and was in demand as a producer as rappers and singers looked to get in on this action. Brown and T-Pain were on the same label (Jive) and had toured together.
  • According to Brown, the song was a lot more raunchy at first, with the hook, "She's chunky, chunky - she's thick, thick." His manager convinced him to tone it down, so Brown and T-Pain changed it to "She wants that lovey dovey, that kiss, kiss."
  • In the week ending November 3, 2007, this song zoomed from #22 to #2 in the Billboard Hot 100, and the following week when it rose to #1. T-Pain was having a moment: He had a remarkable seven songs in the Top 50, three in the Top 10. The others were "Cyclone" by Baby Bash, "Good Life" by Kanye West, "Shawty" by Plies and I'm So Hood" by DJ Khaled, all featuring T-Pain, plus "Bartender" by T-Pain featuring Akon and "Buy U A Drank (Shawty Snappin')" by T-Pain featuring featuring Yung Joc. In addition, T-Pain, under his given name Faheem Najm, was responsible for co-writing all of these songs, plus another song in the Top 50, "Baby Don't Go," by Fabolous featuring Jermaine Dupri.
  • The video was shot at Florida International University in Miami. Brown directed it with Erik White, who did his "Run It!" video.
  • The song is part of Brown's second album, Exclusive, named because he felt it was an album especially for his fans. He said, "I made this album 'exclusively' for them." The album was originally going to be titled Graduation, but was renamed due to Kanye West's album, which was released a few months earlier with the same name.
  • This was the eighth song in the Rock Era to debut at the bottom of the chart, in this case #100, and climb all the way to the top. Other songs that have achieved the same feat include "When A Man Loves A Woman," by Percy Sledge, "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" by Vicki Lawrence and "Can't Help Falling In Love" by UB40.
