Songfacts®:

  • This is a song by American R&B recording artist Chris Brown, from his fourth studio album, F.A.M.E.. Brown wrote the song, which features Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber. It finds the duo singing about their love for a lucky girl. Breezy returned the favor to Justin when he added a part to the remix of "Up" on the Biebster's, Never Say Never - The Remixes album.
  • Canadian songwriting and producing duo The Messengers, who comprise singer/lyricist Nasri and multi-instrumentalist/arranger Adam Messinger, produced the song. Their previous collaborations with Brown include the ballad "Crawl". The Messengers have also co-written a number of Bieber's tunes, including his hit singles "Pray" and "Never Say Never."
  • Chris Brown was just 16-years-old when his debut single, "Run It!," topped the Hot 100, so can identify with the young Canadian. "Being able to collab with [Bieber] was great," Brown told MTV News. "He's a young, energetic cat, so being able to work with him, with the fanbase he has, was incredible. I know a lot of little girls are going to love this record.

I wouldn't say [he's] my protégé. He's doing his thing at a young age, and I was doing mine at a young age, so being able to see him come up is dope."
  • Brown admitted to MTV News that Bieber and him didn't quite meet up in the studio. "I actually stood him up on accident," recalled Breezy. "He was kind of mad... I was all the way on the other side of town handling some business, 'girl business,' and I was rushing back, and by that time, he's like, 'Man, I'm leaving, bro. I did it — just check it out.' And I looked at it and listened to it and I was like, 'Man, this is crazy.' He's a great kid."
