Songfacts®:

  • Chris Brown's first single from his fifth album Fortune is a dance-pop banger, in which he urges on a night of drinking and loud music. "Turn up the music, can I hear it 'til the speakers blow/ Turn up the music, fill your cup and drink it down," he sings. The song was made available at digital music stores on February 14, 2012.
  • The song was produced and written by The Underdogs, who are a R&B production duo composed of Harvey Mason, Jr. and Damon Thomas. The pair have worked with Brown on a number of his previous tracks including the singer's duet with Jordin Sparks, "No Air, his 2007 single "Take You Down and the F.A.M.E. track, "Up 2 You."
  • Brown references LMFAO's second Hot 100 #1 single when he repeatedly chants, "If you're sexy and you know it, put your hands up in the air!"
  • The Underdogs were inspired by Brown himself for this song. "The inspiration was really him as an artist, visualizing how he dances and how he performs, and giving him something to match that energy," said Mason to MTV News.
  • Three years after he was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend Rihanna after a pre-Grammys party, Brown returned to the Grammys at the 2012 Awards show. He performed this song along with "Beautiful People" at the ceremony and later on he took to the stage again along with several other artists and DJs in a medley of dance hits. Some of the other celebrity attendees were unhappy about Brown's comeback - country star Miranda Lambert tweeted: "And Chris Brown twice? I don't get it. He beat on a girl."
  • Brown co-directed the song's music video with Godfrey Tabarez, which was filmed in Los Angeles on February 1–2 2012. It shows the singer hailing a futuristic hover-cab that takes him to a techno party in a warehouse. "We wanted to make sure that people, when they watch this, they feel like they're in this video," explained Tabarez in a behind the video clip. "We wanted to give it personality, we wanted to make it fun, we wanted everybody to see this and wish they were there."
  • A remix by DJ Pauly D featuring Rihanna was debuted February 14, 2012, on Ryan Seacrest's morning radio show. It premiered online on February 20, 2012, the same day that Rihanna's "Birthday Cake" remix (which features Brown) had its first play. The two collaborations sparked media controversy due to Brown's assault on Rihanna three years earlier.
  • The song debuted at #1 on the UK singles chart the week after its release, giving Brown his first ever British chart-topper. Breezy's previous best placing had been his 2006 debut hit "Run It!," which peaked at #2.
