  • The title track of Chris Cornell's fourth solo album, this features a more intimate sound than the Soundgarden vocalist's past recordings. Cornell told The Pulse of Radio that the record was inspired by the solo acoustic tours he's done over the previous few years. "It has been such a rewarding thing to do that I wanted to write an album of new material that essentially supported that and make it a living thing, as opposed to it being nostalgia, you know, and just going out and playing songs from yesterday," he said.
  • Cornell and producer Brendan O'Brien played the vast majority of the instruments on the album themselves. "Most of the songs with drums are either loops that I made electronically or that Brendan basically recorded just playing a little drum kit he had," Cornell told Rolling Stone. "We just made loops, layered things and played some percussion stuff."
  • Speaking to Kerrang!, Cornell explained that the record's title was inspired by mankind's pursuit for meaning, and all the pros and cons it entails. "From the mid-'60s when I was born – through all the cultural shifts we've had – all the way until now, everyone is trying to figure it all out," explained the singer. "Where does that need to come from to have a higher power? (Higher Truth) concepts start with the notion of there is something else, but also immediately included is quite a bit of subjugation – they can be so extreme and ridiculous."
