Songfacts®:

  • Chris Janson penned this song with "Buy Me a Boat" co-writer Chris DuBois and Ashley Gorley. The teetotal singer explained to Nash Country Daily why he chose to pen a libation-themed tune.

"You grow a big Civil War beard and you learn how to mix a cool drink. If I could grow a beard like that, believe me, I'd be a mixologist, 100 percent," he said. "I can fix a drink, and my drink of choice is a cold can of Mountain Dew, but I can fix all kinds of drinks. I've done it for years. And then when the song idea for 'Fix a Drink' came together, it felt like a no-brainer. It just works. You can be drinking a Hi-C or a Jack and Coke and it doesn't matter. It's a fun, feel-good song for the summer."
  • Janson is making quite a habit of churning out beverage-themed singles. His follow-up to his breakthrough song "Buy Me a Boat" was "Power of Positive Drinkin'."
  • The song reminds Janson of "Buy Me A Boat." "The texture and feel of the song reminds me so much of it," he told Billboard magazine. "I write songs for guys and gals like me - the blue collar working man. 'Fix A Drink' is exactly that. It's three minutes on the radio to forget your problems a bit and whatever is going on in the world. I think it's pretty universal to say that 99.9 percent of the people in America have all said 'I could use a drink right now.' We took that to heart, and wrote a song."
