  • "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get" is a barn-burner of a song that celebrates the good life - hunting, fishing, and drinking cold beer. The song's central theme is of being genuine, and Chris Janson isn't putting on airs. He truly loves the simple pleasures of country living. "There is no better way to describe me on a daily basis," he said. "This song is 100% authentic, every word. It's fun, it's rowdy and it's the truth."
  • Tyler Hubbard had Janson in mind when he started writing the song with RaeLynn and the songwriting duo 720 (Blake Hubbard and Jarrod Ingram).

"I listened to their first renderings before the song was finished, and I was like, 'Holy S--T,'" Janson told Taste of Country, spelling out the curse word. "That's unbelievable. It's as if Tyler or whoever in the co-writing space would have put themselves into my body... it was that spot on."

Hubbard urged Janson to personalize the song, so Janson snuck away from a hunting trip and hopped in his Ford Bronco, pencil in hand, to put his own spin on it.
  • Janson knew this song was a hit right from the start, but getting it recorded proved tougher than wrangling a catfish. Studio time was booked in Nashville for the second week of January 2024, but Old Man Winter put the kibosh on their plans. A nasty snowstorm rolled in, and Janson's regular drummer got snowed in all the way out in LA. So, just like back in the pandemic days, they fired up the digital campfire and sent the drum tracks over to LA for him to lay down his parts remotely. Janson even put on his own fancy guitar work, inspired by the Allman Brothers Band.
  • I still go to DQ just to get a dipped cone

It was Tyler Hubbard who added the Dairy Queen lyric, but it describes Janson down to a tee. "I go to DQ all the time and get a dip cone," Janson said. "I'm not even kidding you. That's really part of my life and my lifestyle."
  • Janson released "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get" via Big Machine Records in association with his own label, Harpeth 60. Julian Raymond (Cheap Trick, Glen Campbell) and Scott Borchetta, owner of Big Machine Records, produced the track.
  • Janson performed "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get" live for the first-time during Dolly Parton's Pet Gala, which aired on CBS on March 21, 2024.
  • Chris Janson teamed up with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for the "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get" music video. We see the pair swapping stories in a deer stand, mudding a classic Ford pickup, and embodying the simple pleasures of Southern life.
  • While Chris Janson's song might be catchy, this isn't the first tune with that title. Soul fans know the groove well – The Dramatics released their hit single "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get" back in 1971, reaching #9 on the Hot 100. The phrase itself gained popularity around that time thanks to comedian Flip Wilson and his iconic character Geraldine Jones, who made "What you see is what you get" her signature saying.
