Songfacts®:

  • Here, Chris Young sings about falling for a girl in a bar.

Yeah I'm hangin' on, hangin' on
To every word you say, every move you make
    I'm hangin' on, hangin' on
    Wondering what's up next
    Girl, I can't wait

Such is the attraction, Young is hangin' onto every moment he spends with the girl.
  • Chris Young wrote the song with Corey Crowder and Josh Hoge for his 2015 I'm Comin Over set. It got nixed from that record but "Hangin' On," er, hung on and got included on Losing Sleep.
  • "Hangin' On" has become a live favorite. "One of my favorite things about this song is it's one you just want to wave your hands to," Young explained to ABC Radio. "It just has that beat that even live, I'll get people as we are [singing] 'Hangin' on, hangin' on,' ...everybody wants to do it."
  • The song's music video was shot at the Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach in Florida and follows a couple spending a day by the water before they head to a Chris Young concert.

"I got told a long time ago by another artist," Young said, "'Never try to get a crowd to do something they don't want to do... Figure out what they already want to do, and encourage it.' It's one of those that makes you want to do and the crowd you can see in the video, they're moving along to the song."
