Songfacts®:

  • "Right Now" paints a picture of a late-night love dilemma. It's 2 a.m. and both lovebirds are tossing and turning, wondering why they're hanging on to heartache when happiness is just a call away.

We can't bring ourselves to burn a bridge
We might have to walk back across
When it's late and we're lonely, don't wanna move on
And our pride is the only cost

Finally, Young's cowboy wisdom kicks in. He realizes he needs to make the first move if they're going to two-step back into each other's arms. Love wins, and pride takes a backseat.

"You're in that in-between phase of a relationship going, 'It's late, I can't sleep. I'm wondering where you are and you're wondering where I'm at. Let's not wonder about it anymore. Let's be in the same place,'" Young said of the song.
  • Young is no stranger to love songs. "Right Now" shares the same love-conquers-all spirit as his 2015 hit "I'm Comin' Over."
  • "Right Now" is the sophomore single dropped by Young from his ninth studio album, Young Love & Saturday Nights. While the lead single, the title track, had him spicing things up with a guitar lick borrowed from David Bowie's "Rebel Rebel," this tune plants itself firmly in the heart of country music.
  • Young wrote the song alongside his frequent songwriting partners Josh Hoge and Chris DeStefano. Hoge also helped Young write the similarly themed "I'm Comin' Over."
  • Running Bear's Alexia Stone and Stephen Kinigopoulos shot the song's music video in Nashville. Reflecting the song's emotional landscape, the visual unfolds in a dimly lit home. Young and his flame navigate the space, faces flickering between longing and doubt, mirroring the storm that rages outside.
