Songfacts®:

  • Chrisette Michelle first met Doug "Biggs" Ellison while in business school. The pair hit it off right away and he became her college sweetheart and manager. However, things turned sour to the point where Michele found herself suing Ellison and his label, Four Kings Production, after alleging that the company had embezzled money from her Def Jam contract.

The pair reconnected as she recorded her Milestone album. Ellison dropped down to one knee, proposed, and Michele accepted. Their rekindled romance inspired this track. "I wrote this song to say to everybody who may have pulled us apart that our love is 'Unbreakable,'" she explained in a video. "Through all the thick and thin, we ended up back together again the way we were supposed to be."

"Every once and a while I have regrets and I do wish we never broke up, wish that we were married a long time and we had figured this all out a while back," Michelle added. "But I think I might not have appreciated him for who he is if I had gotten engaged back then. I was young. So we're 'Unbreakable.'"

    "You can keep on tryin'
    You can't break a diamond
    Our love will survive it
    Unbreakable love"
    And:
    "We rock
rock solid, rock solid, like a stone, unbreakable, unbreakable
    To the top
rock solid, rock solid, like a stone, unbreakable, unbreakable"
