Songfacts®:

  • This single reveals a softer side to the R&B songstress. "I can sometimes be afraid of my own vulnerability," said Ciara. "But this time I let myself face it. I let myself feel. I let myself be real. I let myself hurt and be healed." The song was released on September 13, 2012.
  • The song was written and produced by Jasper Cameron. The Atlanta songwriter/producer was also responsible for Ciara's 2006 hit tune "Promise," as well as Christina Aguilera's image-changing single "Dirrty."
  • Ciara's lyrics are based on a past relationship that went wrong with a boyfriend whom she "really loved." The Atlanta songstress told Essence: "I feel like I've evolved as a woman, and you get to feel that on the song. I literally had to stop myself from crying when I was writing it. You can kinda hear it on the song. I wanted to just go and vent and be free in my music. It's my way of saying something that I've wanted to say to someone for a long time. It's very real to my heart. I think it's really cool to embrace the pain of something that may have hurt you and be able to express it through music."
