After topping the UK charts with a cover of Dionne Warwick's "Anyone Who Had A Heart," former Cavern Club coat-check girl Cilla Black was given this epic torch song as a follow up. Produced by George Martin, this was originally an Italian ballad called "Il Mio Mondo," which he had translated by Carl Sigman and arranged by Johnny Pearson - becoming, "You're My World." It went on to become her second UK #1, and broke her worldwide including in the United States where this became her only hit.
Carl Sigman also wrote "It's All In The Game," "Robin Hood" and "Theme From Love Story."
Cilla Black was discovered by Beatles manager Brian Epstein and she went on to become the most successful female singer of the Mersey boom. Later she became a leading TV presenter in Britain, hosting the successful BBC music show Cilla between 1968 and 1976 and in the 1980s and 1990s mainstream ITV hits Blind Date and Surprise Surprise.

It was only a few months ago when I heard this version on a Music 60s TV Channel, Not seeing the screen, I thought, "Wait a minute. What's Helen Reddy doing on a 60s channel?!"

I ran to look at the screen to find "Cilla Black / You're My World / 1964". Oh! So Helen Reddy wasn't the first to record it! Well, as I like Helen Reddy, maybe I'd better check out this Cilla Black."

So, I purchased "The Very Best of Cilla Black" from the iTunes Store and I love it.

And on May 30th, 1964 it reached #1 (for 3 weeks) on the United Kingdom's Singles chart
She had only two more records make the Top 100 chart; "It's For You" (peaked at #79 in 1964) and "Alfie" (reached #95 in 1966)...
But between 1963 and 1993 she had twenty-one records enter the United Kingdom's Singles chart; ten made the Top 10 with two reaching #1, her other #1 was "Anyone Who Had a Heart" in 1964...
She just missed having her third #1 when her covered version of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" peaked at #2 in 1965...
Ms. Black, born Priscilla Maria Veronica White, celebrated her 71st birthday one month ago on May 27th, 2014.

This song with its deep adulations to the other person with "You're my world, you are my life, you're every step I make, you're every breath I take" would truly be a fitting matrimonial theme. It sincerely is one of my all-time favourites.
