Songfacts®:

  • After topping the UK charts with a cover of Dionne Warwick's "Anyone Who Had A Heart," former Cavern Club coat-check girl Cilla Black was given this epic torch song as a follow up. Produced by George Martin, this was originally an Italian ballad called "Il Mio Mondo," which he had translated by Carl Sigman and arranged by Johnny Pearson - becoming, "You're My World." It went on to become her second UK #1, and broke her worldwide including in the United States where this became her only hit.
  • Carl Sigman also wrote "It's All In The Game," "Robin Hood" and "Theme From Love Story."
  • Cilla Black was discovered by Beatles manager Brian Epstein and she went on to become the most successful female singer of the Mersey boom. Later she became a leading TV presenter in Britain, hosting the successful BBC music show Cilla between 1968 and 1976 and in the 1980s and 1990s mainstream ITV hits Blind Date and Surprise Surprise.

  • Anthony from New YorkAna Taylor-Joy ROCKED this song! She did a cover this for the movie Last Night in Soho & it was fabulous, she did a real good job on it that I find myself slightly preferring her version but hey I love BOTH versions so.
  • Rob from ColoradoThis song is my praise to God! He is worthy of the lyrics and has become such a love to me by his grace.
  • Gary from Lindenwold, NjFor years I thought Helen Reddy's (1977) version was the original.

It was only a few months ago when I heard this version on a Music 60s TV Channel, Not seeing the screen, I thought, "Wait a minute. What's Helen Reddy doing on a 60s channel?!"

I ran to look at the screen to find "Cilla Black / You're My World / 1964". Oh! So Helen Reddy wasn't the first to record it! Well, as I like Helen Reddy, maybe I'd better check out this Cilla Black."

So, I purchased "The Very Best of Cilla Black" from the iTunes Store and I love it.
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn June 28th 1964, "You're My World" by Cilla Black entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #80; and on July 26th, 1977 it peaked at #26 (for 2 weeks) and spent 7 weeks on the Top 100...
And on May 30th, 1964 it reached #1 (for 3 weeks) on the United Kingdom's Singles chart

She just missed having her third #1 when her covered version of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" peaked at #2 in 1965...
Ms. Black, born Priscilla Maria Veronica White, celebrated her 71st birthday one month ago on May 27th, 2014.
  • Jill from Seattle, WaI'm confused. For years, I thought that Glen Campbell had written the English lyrics to "You're My Word." Some websites (ref. Wikipedia, e.g.). however, indicate that the English lyrics were written by Carl Sigman. Who REALLY wrote them?
  • Mrcleaveland from Cleveland,She had another single around the same time called "It's For You." Terrific song for its time.
  • Sheldon from Monroe Twp., NjThis is a powerful emotional and deeply moving song especially appealing being sung by the very talented young Cilla Black who also has the distinction of being from Liverpool and managed like The Beatles by Brian Epstein. For me it is an expression of my undying love for my beloved THEA who passed away and is always in my heart
  • Mary S. Twist from Succasunna, NjA wonderful singer is Cilla Black and an incredible song is "You're My World". This song with its deep adulations to the other person with "You're my world, you are my life, you're every step I make, you're every breath I take" would truly be a fitting matrimonial theme. It sincerely is one of my all-time favourites.
  • Williamson Henderson from Manhattan, Ny"You're My World" is one of those pop torch songs that resounds eternal, particularly as performed by the young and emotional Cilla Black (nee White) who seems to virtually come of age during the transformation of the song story and her impressive voice change from pop and mellow to deeper and bombastic. A big hit song on both sides of the Atlantic (#1 in the U.K.), "World" was a perennial favourite at the also dramatic and likewise enduring "Stonewall Club" in New York City.
  • Joshua from La Crosse, WiGuitar soloist Joe Satriani recorded an entirely different, instrumental song with this same title in 1995.
