Songfacts®:

  • Clinton Kane is a singer-songwriter from Perth, Australia, of Norwegian-Filipino ancestry. He first gained notoriety as a YouTuber, covering the songs of such pop artists as James Arthur, Harry Styles and The Weeknd, acquiring a sizable following of over 400,000 subscribers.

After signing to Columbia Records, Kane provided vocals on Martin Garrix's single "Drown." The Filipino-Norwegian-Australian singer then released his own original single, "Chicken Tendies," which peaked at #88 on the Hot 100. He followed it up with this piano-led ballad.
  • The tender ballad finds Clinton Kane falling properly in love for the first time. He details being truly smitten with his love interest; he adores the way his girlfriend helps him when he's depressed, how she loves the things he hates about himself, and even her little quirks, like an inability to sit still.
  • Clinton Kane wrote this bare-bones ballad with his go-to producer Steve Rusch. The LA-based producer and engineer's other credits include Solange's A Seat at the Table (additional recording engineer) Miguel's Wildheart (engineer).
  • Clinton Kane told Genius he wrote the song in 30 minutes while feeling passionate about a new relationship.
