Songfacts®:

  • This was the Rejects' first ever demo (but see "I Am The Wasp"). According to the band, (verbatim) it "caught the attention of small wonder records supremo Pete Stennett who put them into the studio with producer Bob Sergeant to record the song as a single."
  • "Flares 'N Slippers" is also rendered with two apostrophes and is credited to Turner/Geggus [i.e. lead vocalist Jeff Geggus alias Stinky Turner/Jeff Turner and his brother, guitarist Michael (Mick Geggus)]. The B-side was "Police Car" and "I Wanna Be A Star"; issued on the Small Wonder Records label, it was in the Indie chart for months.
  • Released in August 1979, the first pressing of 5,000 copies sold out within two weeks; this doesn't sound like a lot in the age of social media, but for the time and genre it was impressive. This single has been called an EP, but in view of the length of the tracks, that claim does not hold up. >>
