Songfacts®:

  • Cody Johnson was initially reticent about cutting this swampy Casey Beathard and Mitch Oglesby penned number, but was won over by its empowering lyrical content. He explained in a video: "I'm the kind of guy that if you put me in a corner I will come out of it but I'm also not arrogant. The title 'Doubt Me Now' kind of had a little bit of arrogance to it, but the more that I thought about it it's not cocky if you could back it up I guess. It has such an angst and a little bit of aggression and coming from ten years of being independent and really working hard and watching all the people that I surrounded myself with work extremely hard for what we have.

I think it is a great statement song. It empowers people who have encountered struggle and it really does fire me up it encourages me and drives me."
