Songfacts®:

  • Cody Johnson recorded this live track following an interaction with his minister. The singer explained to Billboard that at his shows, he would say, "I'd like to thank the Man Upstairs." One day, Johnson's minister caught him and said, 'Hey, man, that's great and all. But would it kill you to say, 'I'd like to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ?'"

The minister's retort was a challenge for Johnson, at which point he remembered a song that he'd written titled "His Name is Jesus." He decided to include it as a bonus track on Ain't Nothin' to It as that would be the best way to proclaim Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
