  • This sweet ballad finds Johnson encouraging listeners to make the most of every moment with loved ones while they are still around.
  • There's a box of greasy parts sittin' in the trunk of that '65
Still waitin' on you and your grandad to bring it back to life
You can always get around to fixin' up that Pontiac
    'Til you can't

Ben Stennis and Matt Rogers penned the song. Johnson told Billboard his perspective on his own life changes every time he sings it. He explained: "You hear lyrics like fixing up the car with your grandpa, and everyone who hears it thinks, 'Well, grandpa may die.' Well, our time is limited, too. I think about all the division that we've had politically and with race and different things in our country... If you spend your time spreading hate, your time is going to be up, and that's all you did with your time here."
  • The lyrics took on special meaning for Johnson back in the summer of 2021 when he was on board a private jet with his wife and it almost went down. Once he made it safely to the ground, he reflected on the message of '"Till You Can't."

"After that I thought, why did I tell my daughters I didn't have time to get down on the floor and play with them," he said at a listening party. "Why didn't I tell this person I loved them, why didn't I tell that person, hey sorry for doing that, or why didn't I apply myself more here? Our days are numbered and I think it's something people need to hear. Do it now."
  • Cody Johnson released this as the lead single from Human The Double Album. The singer sequenced the tracks to recreate the feel of one of his live shows in the hope that fans listen to them in consecutive order.
  • Cody Johnson hopes the song will inspire the younger generation to move away from the entitled culture. When I heard ''Til You Can't' it was like... get off your butt and go get life," Johnson told Audacy's Coop. "Life's not going to come to you."

"We've got a younger generation, I think in this country right now that's kind of a 'give to me, owed to me, I'm owed something,'" he continued. "Let me tell you somethin', nobody owes you anything in this life. If you want something you gotta go get it."
  • The song became Cody Johnson's first Country #1 on the chart dated February 26, 2022. His previous best placing had been the #13 achieved by "On My Way to You" in 2019.
  • The video follows the song's plot as Cody Johnson fishes, fixes a car and eats with his family before an unexpected turn of events. "When they sent me the rough edit of the video it was so powerful and brought tears to my eyes," said Johnson. "It put into perspective the song that I had been singing for months."
  • Cody Johnson won his first CMA Award when his "Til You Can't" music video was crowned Music Video of the Year. It was one of two pre-show awards announced before the November 9, 2022 ceremony. Johnson earned another trophy during the show when "Til You Can't" won Single of the Year. The Texan also performed the song during the ceremony.
  • "'Til You Can't" won the Grammy for Best Country Song at the 2023 ceremony.
  • Kid Rock performed "'Til You Can't" during his November 8, 2025 show in Phoenix, Arizona, with a new verse inspired by Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated two months earlier:

There's a book that is sitting in your house somewhere that could use some dusting off
There's a man that died for all our sins hanging from the cross
You can give your life to Jesus and he'll give you a second chance
'Til you can't, 'til you can't

Rock performed this version again on February 8, 2026 to close out his "All-American Halftime Show," which took place during Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show and also featured Gabby Barrett, Brantley Gilbert and Lee Brice. After a cello and violin performance, Rock was introduced by his real name, Robert Ritchie, before playing "'Til You Can't" and segueing into a tribute to Kirk. Soon after, Rock released his cover of the song as a single.
  • Kid Rock's version of "'Til You Can't" debuted at #1 on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs chart, marking his first entry on that listing. It also entered several other Billboard charts in its opening week, including #69 on the Hot 100. "'Til You Can't" was Rock's first Hot 100 entry since "First Kiss" reached #66 in 2015.
