Songfacts®:

  • This song was was written and recorded by Coldplay for the Coen Brothers movie Unbroken. The film follows the real-life story of Olympian and soldier Louis "Louie" Zamperini, who survived a plane crash during WWII and spent 47 days drifting on a raft, before being captured by the Japanese Navy.
  • The tune was included as part of the movie's soundtrack, which was scored by Alexandre Desplat (The King's Speech, The Imitation Game, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows).
  • There was a flurry of excitement online when Coldplay fans thought a snippet of the song was being played during a commercial for UK channel Sky Movies Christmas, prior to the release of the soundtrack. However, it transpired that the Chris Martin soundalike voice was Skinny Lister's Daniel Heptinstall and not the Coldplay frontman.
