Songfacts®:

  • Cole Swindell first made his name co-penning cuts for other artists such as Craig Campbell's "Outta My Head" and Scotty McCreery's "Water Tower Town." The Georgia-raised Country singer-songwriter kickstarted his own solo career when he appeared on select dates on Luke Bryan's Dirt Road Diaries tour.
  • This is the first single from Swindell's debut album. It was already a hit on satellite radio before the singer signed with Warner Music Nashville in July 2013. "The folks who are buying music just want to have fun," said Swindell, "and 'Chillin' It' is the perfect song to introduce me to them. It isn't a full-out party song, and it isn't serious. Like it says, it's just a chill song, and that's just me."
  • The song was penned by Swindell with Shane Minor whose other credits include the #1 singles "Beautiful Mess" by Diamond Rio, "Brand New Girlfriend" by Steve Holy, and "Live a Little" by Kenny Chesney.
  • Swindell told Radio.com that when he wrote this song, he "just wanted to do something fun." He added: "After I wrote it, I knew it was special. It ended up getting me a record deal, so it's a pretty special song."
  • The song climbed to the top of the Billboard Country chart dated March 1, 2014. Swindell was the first artist to take a debut single to #1 on Hot Country Songs since Florida Georgia Line's "Cruise" began its record 24-week reign in December 2012.
