Songfacts®:

  • Corona (Italian for Crown) is an Italian studio creation of Brazilian-born singer and model Olga Souza and producer Francesco "Checco" Bontempi. This song, released as their first single in Italy, features the voice of Italian singer Jenny B. A huge hit in Corona's native country, it topped the charts for eight weeks.
  • A remixed version of the song peaked at #2 in the UK in September 1994 and #11 in the US the following year.
  • The more photogenic Olga Souza posed as the singer in the music video. Jenny B wasn't the first vocalist whitewashed in favor of a model. Martha Wash sung on C+C Music Factory's chart-topper "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" plus three #1 Dance hits for Black Box, and in each instance a model was used to lip-sync the songs for the videos.
  • Corona achieved two more Top 20 hits in the UK: "Baby Baby" (#5) and "Try Me Out" (#6). In the US, "Baby Baby" was their only other Hot 100 hit, peaking at #57.
  • Following Jenny B's contribution on "The Rhythm Of The Night," Corona recruited Welsh singer Sandy Chambers to be their (uncredited) vocalist. After she sang on their first two albums, Olga Souza took on all the vocal duties herself.

Jenny B went onto to be the vocalist for the Italian Eurodance group Playahitty, whose hits included "The Summer Is Magic."
  • The dance classic has since been sampled twice on hit singles. In 2013, Bastille reached #2 on the UK charts with their mash-up of "Of The Night," which combined "The Rhythm Of The Night" and Snap!'s "Rhythm Is A Dancer." Seven years later, Black Eyed Peas and J Balvin teamed up for "Ritmo (Bad Boys for Life)," a Spanglish twist on Corona's hit tune.
