Songfacts®:

  • Before playing this song in Detroit on July 21, 2006, Adam Duritz said that it was a misguided love song. The woman turned out to be a b--ch, but it's for all those girls who are actually worth it. >>>

  • Recovering The Satellites was Counting Crows' second album. Adam Duritz dated some high-profile actresses - including Friends stars Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston - but generally remains on good terms with them after their breakups. He hasn't said who this song is about, but it was written while the relationship was ongoing. Duritz writes very personal songs, and in this one he was looking for ways to make the relationship work.

  • Terry from Grafon, WiI want to say with almost certainty that this song is about Courteney Cox....I believe I read that somewhere. They were dating at the time this song was written and some of the lyrics match up to a description of her (most notably "Hey monkey, when you open up your blue eyes,
I don't know if I'm wide awake or dreaming, But all I ever need is everything")
