Songfacts®:

  • The first single from Courtney Love's second studio album Died Blonde, "You Know My Name" was packaged as a double A-side single with the song "Wedding Day."
  • The song features Motley Crue stickman Tommy Lee on drums.
  • The song's music video was partially inspired by the character Miss Havisham from Charles Dickens' 1861 novel Great Expectations and the controversial 1966 Czech New Wave comedy-drama movie Daisies. Love explained her role in a preview: "I'm supposed to look like an old Victorian doll crossed with a Dickensian character called Miss Havisham," she said, "who got abandoned on her wedding day at the altar and lived to be a hundred."
  • Director Maximilla Lukacs explained the creative process behind the making of the clip: "'You Know My Name' is a very hard hitting punk song and Courtney and I wanted to make a video that would counter that full force with very soft and feminine visuals," she said.

"We chose an extremely feminine color palette but all the action is anarchic and wild! It has the feeling of being on a female pirate ship. Full of explosions of glitter and lace! It is fearless, raw and beautiful just like Courtney."
