Songfacts®:

  • Cover Drive is a four-piece dancehall-pop act from Barbados comprising vocalist Amanda, guitarist Barry, bassist Jamar and drummer T Ray. They achieved immediate success with this their debut single, which was released on August 28, 2011 entering the UK singles chart at #9.
  • Despite some British listeners interpreting it more crudely, the song's title is an innocent one referring to a Bajan expression meaning to knock someone down. Amanda told Digital Spy: "'Lick Ya Down' is a phrase from Barbados which contrary to popular belief in England is not naughty - It means 'knock ya down'! We had to add in an explanation at the beginning of the video of what it means as everyone thought it was something else. There's a lot of fun, attitude and energy in there."
