Songfacts®:

  • The Minnesota band Crow is best known for their 1969 hit "Evil Woman Don't Play Your Games With Me," but they also cracked the Hot 100 with this song from their second album, which is often remembered for its massive drum solo. In our interview with Crow bass player Larry Wiegand, he explained: "We needed a song that would feature our drummer, Denny Craswell, doing a drum solo. So my brother Dick (the group's guitarist) and I came up with this riff and we all started working on it at rehearsal. We eventually recorded it but we didn't have a name yet. The engineer needed to label it something so Dave told him to just call it 'Cottage Cheese' until we came up with something better. We never did, so that name stuck."

  • Randall from Las VegasThe single did not have the drum solo (which was fine by me). I really liked Cottage Cheese so when I found the 8 track of Crow By Crow on the discount rack of my local K-Mart in the early 70s I grabbed it and enjoyed all of the tracks. Other really good tracks from the LP include I Stand to Blame and Gone, Gone, Gone.
