Songfacts®:

  • David Crowder wrote this song inspired by Psalm 122 v1, one of the first Bible verses he memorized as a child. His favorite Sunday School teacher, Miss Panell, had encouraged him to memorize the verse.

I rejoiced with those who said to me
Let us go to the house of the Lord

As a kid, Crowder couldn't wait to go to church and to Miss Panell's class. "The song emphasizes that church should be a grace-filled place of belonging, a place that feels like home," Crowder told New Release Today. "Something that celebrates the critical role the local church plays in each of our lives."
  • There's somebody Who loves you
    Waiting at the door
Oh, it's home sweet home here
In the house of the Lord

It doesn't matter if you're rich, you're poor, or even feel far away from God, nobody is beyond His redemption. "It's great that there is a house of the Lord that we can go to, but what's amazing about it is that we get to be in the house," Crowder told FreeCCM. "Anybody who walks through the door is welcome and the grace of God extends to everyone no matter how far you've gone. There's home waiting. That's what this verse means to me."
  • Crowder wrote "In The House" with the track's producers, Jeff Sojka and Ben Glover. The same trio penned his Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart-topper "Good God Almighty."
  • Crowder released "In the House" as the second single from Milk & Honey on August 27, 2021. The singer took inspiration from Exodus 3 v 8, where God promises to bring the Israelites up out of Egypt and lead them into Canaan, a land "flowing with milk and honey." He uses the allusion to a lush and productive land to remind us that there is light on the other side of the COVID pandemic.
  • "In The House" climbed to #1 on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs, giving Crowder his second chart-topper. He first led the tally with "Good God Almighty" for five weeks in spring 2021.
