Songfacts®:

  • This song samples the groove from the 1968 5th Dimension track "Stoned Soul Picnic." In that one, they surry down to a picnic with red yellow honey, sassafras and moonshine; in "Ghetto Day," Waters is making Kool-Aid and collard greens on a warm day in the city. "I got the track, which initially reminded me of my childhood growing up," she said in a Songfacts interview. "Like a warm, comfortable home feeling. So, I just kind of scratched it out with things I remembered from my childhood."
  • Waters wrote this song with Sean Spencer, who worked with her production team, The Basement Boys.
