  • Also known as D-12 or The Dirty Dozen, D12 consists of several rap artists from the Detroit area. The group was formed in 1996, but only gained fame after one of its members, Eminem, found success of his own.
  • Originally consisting of the finest rap artists in the area, D12 was going to have 12 members, but settled on 6, with most members also starting solo projects. They explained that each member had a dual personality, which accounts for the dozen.
  • An original member named Bugz was killed during an argument when he was shot numerous times and died shortly afterwards.
  • The group's first album, Devil's Night, was released in 2001 and was executive produced by Eminem. The album was a huge success and went to #1 in the United States. The group's second album, D12 World, was released in 2004 and also hit #1.
  • In 2001, D12 was kicked off the Warped tour alongside Esham. They were kicked off when D12 members physically attacked Esham over lyrics in the song "Chemical Imbalance" which mentioned Eminem's daughter.
  • In early 2006, original member Proof was killed. It all started when Proof got into a billiards-related argument with a man named Keith Bender, Jr. Proof later shot Bender. This eventually led to Proof being shot himself by a bouncer named Mario Etheridge, who was the cousin of Bender. He then died shortly afterwards and his funeral service was attended by 2,660 with thousands more mourning outside.
  • In 2005, member Swift was arrested for drunk driving. After serving two days in prison, Swift was sent to court. However, Swift failed to arrive in favor of attending the funeral for fallen member Proof. He was then sentenced to 93 days in prison for violation of probation terms. This prevented him from working with the group and appearing in interviews. He was released and went back to work with the group. >>
