  • This is Dagny's first proper love song. She penned the tune with her producer Jason Gill, who has also worked with Tove Lo and Zara Larsson. Dagny told Pop Crush: "I've always been weary about putting phrases like 'I love you' in songs because it's over the top, but it was a good experience. It's an honest song, and it felt like... I'm not really a romantic person. I'm not very emotional. I'm not the typical artist, I guess. I'm not necessarily great at telling people what I think or what I feel about them."

"So it was kind of overdue, but it was good to write it and get it out there," she continued. "When I wrote the song, we started that morning, and I had a flight to catch a 6 a.m. the next day. We worked until the very last minute and then I had to jump in the car, pick up my stuff and go straight to the airport. We were really pushing because we felt this was a special one. And it is a really special one."
  • Dagny penned the song with Jason Gill and songwriter Michelle Buzz on the final day of a two-month writing trip in Los Angeles. She recalled to the BBC that they started the session at 11 o'clock in the morning and "quickly caught on this vibe of this one-note chorus."

The trio immediately got excited and carried on working on the tune through the rest of the day and into the night. They eventually finished it at four or five the next morning. Dagny then grabbed her things and within three hours was flying back home to Norway.
  • Katy Perry sampled the song for her single "Never Really Over." Dagny recalled to BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat she got a call from Perry's team in early 2019. They told her, "Hey, we've made a version of Love You Like That and we want to give credit where credit's due."
