  • "Silverlines" is the debut solo single by Damiano David, the lead singer of Italian rock band Måneskin. For those who know Damiano as the electrifying frontman of that band, this piano ballad is something else entirely. Gone are the thrashing guitars and flamboyant stage antics, replaced instead with a simple piano, a tender melody, and David's voice - rich, velvety, and occasionally slipping into a falsetto that shows off just how vulnerable he's willing to get.

"This song is very special to me," David said. "It was one of the first songs recorded for this new project, and at the time it felt like a letter of hope. Now, looking back, I see how I've ended up exactly where the song said I'd be."
  • The track was helmed by British singer-songwriter and producer Labrinth, whose resumé includes collaborations with Billie Eilish, The Weeknd and Nicki Minaj. Joining the fold were Katy Perry's frequent collaborators Sarah Hudson and Ferras. David previously linked up with Hudson when she helped Måneskin write their single "The Loneliest."
  • Sarah Hudson had started working on the song with Labrinth when she conceived the idea of bringing the Måneskin rocker into the project. Once that door was opened, David didn't hesitate. "If you have the chance to work with Labrinth, you don't get precious! You just do it!" David laughed to Billboard.
  • Lyrically, "Silverlines" is about hope and growth, with David reflecting on his own personal journey, which has taken him from international fame to a period of quiet self-reflection. After moving to Los Angeles in January 2024, David spent a few months alone, figuring out what he wanted from life, and that solitude seeps into the lyrics:

    A smile, I welcome you
A darkness, I've long forgotten you, yeah
    And peace belongs to me

"That's what happened. This is the part that I share with the audience - it's the public part of the work I've done," he explained. "I of course did a lot of personal work and personal growing, and I cut some things out of my life and I replaced [them] with new, healthier, more beautiful ones. I think now things are better."
  • As for why he chose "Silverlines" to launch his solo career, David explained to NME: "Because it's pretty unique compared to other songs on the record. Weirdly, it's the first song but for me, it's the closing of the circle and the end of my journey.

Also, it's with Labrinth – to make my debut with one of the biggest producers in the world is amazing."
  • The theatrical music video for "Silverlines" shows first the struggle, then the endless possibilities that await David. At its conclusion, he enters a limousine and is asked by the driver where he wants to go, to which he responds: "Everywhere."

"It's a very metaphorical representation of the meaning of the song," he said about the video. "It's about turning off the past and finding the key to happiness, representing the different stages of my life."
  • Despite his rapid rise to fame with Måneskin, Damiano David revealed that "Silver Lining" almost felt like destiny. When he began working on the track, he reconnected with Labrinth - a musician he's idolized since age 19 when he attended Labrinth's album release show in London. Reflecting on the experience, Damiano described it to Z100 New York's Crystal Rosas as a surreal "full-circle moment" - he felt like some force was confirming he was on the right path.
  • Damiano made his American late-night talk show solo debut on the October 22, 2024, episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he performed "Silverlines." David reflected on his breakthrough solo performance, describing it to Crystal Rosas as a "huge" moment, especially given the cultural significance of Fallon's show in Italy. David shared that Fallon's personal praise for his song meant a lot, likening the opportunity to an early career milestone.
