Songfacts®:

  • This five-minute Fogelberg composition from his 1979 Phoenix album is heavy on production, but far from being a voyeur's fantasy - watching a woman while she takes a bath - it has a classical inspiration as is clear from the album's liner notes. The woman is Esméralda, and the lucky guy is Pierre Gringoire; both are characters from the 1831 Victor Hugo novel Notre Dame De Paris. >>>

  • Mick from HartfordI saw Dan unplugged ,aka just himself on stage years ago. He explained how he wrote this. He had just made love to his then wife and he was inspired to write this. I heard it right from the songwriters mouth!
  • Mick60 from Burlington VtI was at a Dan Fogelberg acoustic concert once and he mentioned how this song came to be. He explained that he had just gotten done making love to his girlfriend. Sat down at the piano and poured this song out of him. During the concert, he also said that at the time The Eagles were not together but he was! He had a dry sense of humor !
