Songfacts®:

  • Fogelberg wrote this in the wake of the March 1979 crisis at the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant. The song is both an attack on nuclear power and the powerful financial interests behind it, and an appeal to promote solar power, hence the lyrics:

    The waiting's over
    The moment has come
    To kill the fire
    And turn to the Sun

  • Sabrina from ArizonaThis song is very reminiscent of something Neil Young might have written. I like it.
  • Monte from Waukesha WiIn the lyrics, the word "cold" is omitted from the line,
"We won't be safe until we shut them down........
  • Rick from York Pa ( 45 Min. From 3 Mile Island )I would just like to say Comin that the person that lived safely in North Carolina, probably didn’t have to live through that crisis at three mile island as I did. My wife and I were married A mere 4years,And we were one suitcase away from closing the trunk lid and driving as far west as we could. That’s how scared everybody was in our neighborhood. So I like the Anne Fogelberg song it’s a great song the lyrics are good new music great like you said but don’t make light of that time. Pretty freaking scary
  • Greer from Rowayton, CtGreat guitar and great harmonies, though.
  • Charles from Charlotte, NcI like Fogelberg's body of work, but this song is silly.
