Songfacts®:

  • Dan Fogelberg once said of this downtempo track that it was the first song he wrote that made him feel like he could do this for a living, adding, "Before that I had written a few songs, but they weren't very good." >>>

  • Running to 6 minutes 34 seconds, "To The Morning" is appropriately the first track on his 1972 debut album Home Free.

Fogelberg was signed to Epic records by the legendary executive Clive Davis, who jumped on the singer-songwriter trend. The Home Free album was recorded in Nashville with Norbert Putnam, and while Fogelberg thoroughly enjoyed the process, sales were underwhelming and Davis sent Fogelberg to Joe Walsh for his next album.

  • Anonymous from Fond Du Lac WiI am a late Fogelberg fan...so pleased to have been turned on to him by Steve March Torme' on 91.1 the Avenue. His lyrics are heartfelt and true. Gone too soon.
  • Steve from Sammamish Wa.Thank you so much for having this song for me to hear again, it's been so many years and so much life ago. For a few moments I was 17 again so innocent and full of hope, it hurt so good to feel that way again.
