Songfacts®:

  • Daniel Amos is a Christian Rock band fronted by Terry Taylor, who wrote this song. The track takes on believers who can be a little too aggressive in their efforts to spread the word of God. Taylor told us: "I don't recall any specific incident that might have inspired this song. I think it was more of an accumulation of total experience, having seen this kind of religious bludgeoning over the years. I may have even done a little of it myself in the early days of my zealotry. The crux of our relationship with God and our neighbors is love, not self-righteousness and judgment. This is the simple message of the song." (Here's our full interview with Terry Taylor.)
