Songfacts®:

  • After a four year absence, the Chirstian rockers Daniel Amos returned in 1991 with their album Kalhöun. One of the most memorable and catchy songs on the set it "If You Want To," which was written by band members Terry Taylor, Greg Flesch and Tim Chandler. Taylor told us: "'If You Want To' has real appeal to me in that it is reflective of the '60s pop songs that so inspired me as a teenager. I deliberately set out to write such a song. It's a very commercial tune. I set out to write what I hoped would be a very simple love song with a little bit of an unobtrusive theological nod to free will thrown in. To love or not to love someone is obviously a matter of choice. Not even God forces us to love Him, and this is at the heart of the song."
