Songfacts®:

  • "Beers and Sunshine" is a feel-good summer song where Darius Rucker calls for slowing down and enjoying the simple things in life when everything feels out of control.
  • Rucker wrote the song via Zoom during the COVID-19 quarantine with producer Ross Copperman and fellow songwriters Josh Osborne and J.T. Harding. This was the first ever song Rucker has totally written and recorded virtually.

"My producer made a demo thing, then we kind of sung on it and then I put a demo on it," he explained. "Then he basically zoomed with the drummer and then zoomed with the bass player and then zoomed with the guitar player and that's how we did the whole record, so that was pretty cool."
  • Don't owe nothing to the lender
    Nothing spinning in the blender
The only thing on my agenda is
    Beers and sunshine
    Bonfires and summertime

"Beers And Sunshine" is Rucker's cure for the lockdown blues in a world where friends can still meet up together around a bonfire. Rucker explained that that they penned the song as an antidote to stress and anxiety during a heavy year:

"Like it says in the song, I don't know how we fix any of these big, real issues that we're facing, but while we work through this time, I think it's important that we find the silver lining where we can really enjoy the little moments and the simple joys of time spent together with friends and family."
  • Rucker came close to changing "beers" to another libation. "After I wrote it I had a moment of thinking of changing it to 'Tequila and Sunshine,'" he explained. "Because a buddy of mine thought it was a much better idea and he still says it all of the time. But the more I thought about it, I thought 'Beers and Sunshine' was the way to go."
