  • The first single from Darius Rucker's third album was penned by the singer with Nashville songwriter Josh Kear and producer Frank Rogers. "The production is different and so light," said Rucker to CBS. "Frank Rogers, I don't know what he did, but he just decided to make a different record than the last two that we made and he succeeded."
  • The song is about a married couple sticking together, something Rucker can readily identify with. He explained to CBS: "It's so me and so personal in my life. It's the story about a husband and a wife who all their friends said were never going to make it and all these years later all their friends are divorced and they're still together and everybody is still saying they're never going to make it."

"When I was singing it I was just laughing because it's such a defiant song," he continued. "It's a song that's saying to everybody, 'Screw you. I know we're going to make it. Through all the crap, we're going to be the two that make it.' And that's how my wife and I feel. I love the song."
  • Speaking with The Boot, Rucker said that when Josh Kear and him started writing this cut, it was initially, "a family song, but turned into a bigger thing. We were trying to get across the defiant 'I'm going to make it no matter what you say' attitude."
  • The song is one of the most autobiographical that Rucker's ever written, including the lines: "Church bells ringing on our wedding day, climbed in that limo and rode away. Guess you'll always hear some people say they're never gonna make it." The singer admitted to The Boot that when he married Beth there were skeptics. "I don't blame them," he said. "I was a different guy back then, but I grew into who I am now."
  • Rucker's favorite line in the song is: "Every roadblock was a chance to say; take my hand I'm here beside you." "That's what it all comes down to," he told The Boot. "When you come up to those problems, just saying that we're going to do this together. I think that's the most important thing."
  • The music video for this song was one of the first to insert product placement long after it was released. About 90 seconds in, Rucker sings in front of a billboard advertising Grand Marnier that wasn't in the original vid.
