Songfacts®:

  • Like the opening track of Songs For Imaginative People, "(800) HUMAN" this is a song of solidarity with existentialists. Darwin Deez aka Darwin Smith explained to NME: "'God is dead' is not about atheism vs theists. Actually if you go back to the quote in context, the next page in gay science is about radical new horizon of freedom." He added: "Sadness and mourning part of it too though, hence the b-section vibe."
  • How did Darwin Smith get his moniker? He explained to Denver Westworld: "My best friend and sometimes-bassist in the band, Michelle (aka Mash Deez), gave me the name. I felt it was authentic and also stylized in a way that was fun for people."
  • The song's music video was directed by Ninian Dorff whose other credits include the clip for Graham Coxon's debut single from his A+E album, "What'll It Take."
