Songfacts®:

  • Chris Daughtry wrote this song with American songwriter Claude Kelly, whose other credits include Kelly Clarkson's "My Life Would Suck Without You" and Miley Cyrus' "Party in the U.S.A.." He recalled to The Hollywood Reporter: "The song went through many different phases, as far as production. We ended up stripping everything away and cutting a live piano. I did the final vocals in a hotel room on my laptop with my mic at about three in the morning. I'm surprised I didn't get security called on me. I did all those vocals and editing right there and that's what's on the record."

  • Megan from MissouriI think this song is basically based off a relationship that has just ended. It seems that the girl has left the guy and he's trying to tell her something really bad, but she won't listen.
1.) "Seems Like Every Little Word I Say. Keeps Getting Twisted. Coming Out Wrong, So Baby Hold On." He's trying to explain to her of how he feels, but every word he says comes out wrong and is likely to offend her and make her even more angry.

2.) "I'm Drawing It Back Now, And The Target Is You. And I Don't Know What Else I Can Do, Whoa." "I'm Tired Of Taking My Aim. When I Keep On Missing. There's Gotta Be A Better Way. There's Gotta Be A Better Way." "But I'm Shooting With Broken Arrows." He just keeps trying and trying, but nothing seems to work. He's trying to use words to express how he feels, but his heart is so broken that his words aren't strong enough to tell her how he feels. That's why he says he's shooting with broken arrows and the target is you/her.

This is what I think the song is about. I just picked out a couple of lines that I thought meant something.
