Songfacts®:

  • "Clash" finds Dave and Stormzy connecting for the first time on disc. The song is a playful showdown between the two South London rap stars as they nod to their grime origins. The pair swap boastful one-liners about their successful careers and wealthy lifestyles.
  • Though this is the first time the two heavyweights have teamed up on record, they have socialized since Dave attended Stormzy's meet and greet for his 2014 Dreamers Disease EP. They've name checked each other on several rhymes, such as when Stormzy rapped on his track "Superheroes":

The way I topped the charts
Would've thought that I was Dave
I am young, black, beautiful and brave

Also Stormzy appeared in Dave's 2019 videos for "Black" and "Location."
  • Kyle Evans came up with the beat. His previous collaborations with Dave include the singles "Professor X," "Titanium," and "Mercury."
  • Dave released this as the lead single from We're All Alone in This Together on July 9, 2021. A comment the composer Hans Zimmer made to Dave on FaceTime inspired the album title.
  • The Edem Wornoo-directed video features Dave and Stormzy taking some Aston Martins on a lap around the Silverstone Circuit. London filmmaker and screenwriter Wornoo also created the concept for Dave's "Black" visual.
