Songfacts®:

  • On January 10, 2012, Contemporary Worship group The David Crowder Band released their sixth and last album Give Us Rest, a double-disc, 34-track requiem mass. It was released a week after the band played their final show at the Passion 2012 Conference on January 3, 2012 at the Georgia Dome. This was the first single released from the set.
  • Apart from the four bluegrass tunes that close Give Us Rest, which were laid down early on in the process, all the tracks were laid down separately by the individual band members in their home studios. Christianity Today magazine asked David Crowder whether it was an emotional experience working on their last album? He replied: "What's weird about this record is that about 85 percent of it was done with all of us in separate locations. All the guys have studio setups at their house, so all we were doing was sitting around in our own place uploading files to each other. It's the longest record we've ever done, and the most amount of work we've ever put into a project—and nobody can really tell you when they recorded it! It was just spread out in little spurts and stops, and files getting passed around so that you couldn't see the outcome or where the thing was. So that process eliminated the potential for a big emotional moment. The sentimentality was absent simply because we were not in each other's presence."
  • Give Us Rest sold 50,000 copies in its debut week, placing the album at #2 on the Billboard 200. This marked the best chart rank and sales week for the David Crowder Band, whose previously best was the #11 peak of 2009's Church Music (36,000 in its debut week).
