Songfacts®:

  • David Guetta is a French dance producer who is also recognized as one of the world's top DJs. This song is one of several international hits he has recorded.
  • This was Guetta's first single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.
  • American gospel singer Chris Willis, who met Guetta whilst on vacation in Paris, is the vocalist on this track. Willis has collaborated with Guetta on several of the French producer's other hits including "Love Don't Let Me Go (Walking Away)." and "Everytime We Touch." Willis, who wrote the song with Guetta, Frédéric Riesterer and Joachim Garraud, told us: "'Love Is Gone' is about the partnership that happens between two people. What do you do when the thrill is gone, when you don't have the ignition and passion that you had when you first met. That's more of an interpersonal relationship song whereas 'Just A Little More Love' could be very spiritual."
  • This was sampled by the Black Eyed Peas on their 2009 single, "I Gotta Feeling.'"
  • Around the time this charted in the US, producers like Timbaland, Kanye West and Akon were starting to take sounds from European dance music. Guetta told the Daily Telegraph August 21, 2009 that after this song was a massive hit in the US, "my phone suddenly didn't stop ringing. All the big artists I talk to say that they are trapped in a formula and they are looking for the music of tomorrow. This is what we felt like we were making in the studio - it's like a mix of hip-hop and dance so we called it 'electro-hop'."
