Songfacts®:

  • This song is a collaboration between French DJ David Guetta, American singer Bebe Rexha and Colombian reggaeton artist J Balvin. Rexha sings about a lame lover she suspects is not being faithful to her. During the chorus she demands her romantic partner reaffirm his commitment to her as she croons, "Say my name, if you love me." Balvin raps his verse on the same topic in Spanish.
  • Destiny's Child recorded a 1999 hit single of the same title. Their song has a similar theme of a person doubting their romantic partner's commitment to the relationship.
  • David Guetta supplied the Latin-tinged dance-pop production with the help of Giorgio Tuinfort and Boaz van der Beatz. The French DJ told Billboard that merging the different genres was "challenging." "It's such an interesting combination," Guetta stated. "Some pop parts, some reggaeton parts, some electronic part, it's also very minimal. It is hard to make, as a producer, a record that has very very little amount of elements of sounds and it's challenging, but when you make it, it's amazing!"
  • This represents Guetta's first collaboration with J. Balvin. However, he previously worked with Bebe Rexha on his 2014 hit single "Hey Mama."
  • The song's music video was directed by Hannah Lux Davis, who previously worked with Guetta on "Don't Leave Me Alone" featuring Anne-Marie and "Hey Mama."
  • Guetta and J Balvin originally recorded the song with Demi Lovato, but for reasons unknown they never released it. The track later appeared on 7 with Bebe Rexha replacing Lovato.
