Songfacts®:

  • This song finds Guetta reuniting with his "Titanium" collaborator Sia. "The Whisperer" is one of two Listen songs where the French EDM star and the Australian singer-songwriter work together. The other one is "Bang My Head."
  • The ballad finds Sia singing about longing "for a new beginning" and struggling "through the days now." It is one of several tracks on Listen that were influenced by the breakdown of Guetta's 22 year marriage to Cathy. "It has definitely influenced the topics on the album," he told Billboard magazine. "I'm not a songwriter myself, but working with songwriters on the songs, of course what you go through in your life influences the music you make. That's normal."

"I'm still a very positive person," he added. "I still love to party and have fun, and I'm full of happiness. But I've been through some hard stuff lately. I think you can feel it in the songs."
