Songfacts®:

  • This is a simple song of longing where a guy is thinking as he misses his sweetheart on a long trip.
  • The steel drums on the recording reflect the many influences that the session players that played on This Is A Recording represented. It is also another example of the production values of producer David Zycheck.
  • David Persons later became a United Methodist minister.

  • Sam Smithson from North Hollywood, CaliforniaI haven't heard this song in a long time. Brings back a lot of memories. David Persons concerts were really something. He was one of the best live performers I have ever seen. Even if there were several thousand people there, you felt like he was singing and talking just to you and your friends and afterward you were all going to go out and get a pizza or something.

I have heard that the long awaited and several times delayed new album is finally rolling. Persons is doing his own producing with his new band, The House Of Sound, which is based in Austin. Texas. Can''t wait to hear what he has written and how his sound has developed in almost 30 years. Wow! A new David Persons project would be cool.
  • Mark Danjulnois from Austin, TxI found this song and one other by DPTIOG and sent them into songfacts, so hopefully the YouTube links will be accurate. Can we post the links as well? I will wait and see if they get the youtube link fixed first. If you are the person who originally posted this song, can you change the youtube link? If so, please let me know who you are!
  • Neil from Austin, TxHas anyone heard any more about a new album from David and the Instruments? That would be great if it happens.

What is David Persons doing these days anyway? Someone said he was a Methodist minister now. Can anyone confirm this?
  • Tom from Beaver Falls, OrThey are now also on MP3.com/davidpersons

    What a cool song.
  • Joanne from Virginia Beach, VaYou can hear some of the tracks at the link below. Apparently David or someone connected to him or The Instruments of Grace posted a number of the tracks from "This Is A Recording".
