Songfacts®:

  • This song was written by songwriter and producer Charlie Peacock and originally featured on his 1991 Love Life album.
  • Peacock told CCM Magazine presents 100 Greatest Songs In Christian Music that this testament to the struggle between who we are and who we want to be was inspired by African music. He explained: "Musically, I started out with a groove inspired by Johnny Clegg and Savuka, a South African Zulu pop Group. I wanted it to be very singable and simple."
  • DC Talk covered this on their 1995 Jesus Freak album. Band member Michael Tait said in the same magazine: "It's probably one of our top three songs of all time. Charlie did an incredible job writing that one."

  • Lori from TxIncredible song. No generational divide. Timeless. Really like all the "da da da" throughout the song. Kinda haunting with Kevin's voice.
  • George from PhiladelphiaJust an amazing song and the rendition by dc Talk is super amazing.
