Songfacts®:

  • "4 Small Black and White Pictures of You" is the eighth track on DEC3's 2014 debut self-titled album. The song is one of the oldest on the disc as it was written by DEC3's guitarist, Jon Haber, in 1998.
  • The tune references when Haber was a teenager and would go to the boardwalk or a carnival and take pictures in the photo booth. The machine would dispense them in strips of four and in black-and-white.

Haber revealed in our interview that lyrically the song is more than just reminiscing about a past love. "He remembers taking these pictures and as the song goes on he misses the girl that he was with but what he really misses the most is how he used to be," he said.

Haber added regarding the true meaning of the tune: "He talks about the pictures but it's really not the relationship. He wishes he could be that free spirit again or be like that person he sees in those pictures."
