Songfacts®:

  • The first single from Gore, this was released on February 4, 2016. The track is very much in the band's classic style. Vocalist Chino Moreno explained: "It's just one of those songs that's very 'Deftones-esque,' where that dynamic is there as far as that ebb and flow... that dichotomy is what makes us who were are in a way. It's sort of our DNA. So I feel like it's a good representation of where we're at right now and where we've been in the past as well."
  • Moreno described the track to Rolling Stone as "perpetual motion." He added: "The whole song is always just like tumbling over itself. I just picture running."

Fittingly, the Charles Bergquist directed video finds the singer running through the streets of a residential neighborhood.
  • Moreno explained the song's meaning to Loudwire: "The lyrics themselves are talking about that dichotomy that lives not only in the music but inside each of us, of just like - I guess good and bad, dark and light. That's something that we've sort of musically brought to the table."
  • The song came together really fast. It was birthed when the band was in the studio waiting for guitarist Stephen Carpenter to show up. Moreno explained: "He was running a few hours behind and we just started jamming on the initial riff of that thing and Stephen walked in the door while we were right in the middle of it and he picked up his guitar and started playing right along and wrote the chorus riff and then we all wrote the bridge riff.

We did it in like, like an hour. Usually when those songs come together quickly like that, it's hard not to feel like those aren't special moments because it's like, there was no talking about it. It was just very instinctual. I always feel like those are our best moments with these guys."
