Songfacts®:

  • "This Is Me" is from the 2008 Disney Channel movie Camp Rock, in which Demi Lovato plays Mitchie Torres, a musical prodigy who is befriended at music camp by spoiled rocker Shane Gray, played by Joe Jonas. Lovato was 15 at the time and being groomed for stardom by Disney. The Jonas Brothers were already big stars, so Joe was a big draw on the channel.

Lovato starred in the Disney Channel series As the Bell Rings in 2007, but Camp Rock gave her a lot more exposure and introduced her as a singer. The song was released as her first single and went to #9. Later in 2008 she released her debut album, Don't Forget, and in 2009 she got the lead in the Disney series Sonny With A Chance. Her second album, Here We Go Again, was released that same year and went to #1. In 2010, she and Jonas reprised their roles for Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam.

Quite understandably, she crashed out soon after. In late 2010 she went to rehab to deal with address her struggles with bulimia, self-harm and depression.
  • The song was written and produced by Adam Watts and Andy Dodd. The duo have also written for Jesse McCartney, including his international hit "Beautiful Soul" and for Hannah Montana and Aly & AJ. Additionally they have credits on the Hannah Montana and High School Musical soundtracks.
  • In 2025, a mash-up of "This Is Me" and Charli XCX's Brat track "360" went viral on TikTok, drawing attention for its playful fusion of two distinct pop eras: Lovato's Disney Channel-era anthem and Charli's edgy, modern hit.
  • Demi Lovato reunited with The Jonas Brothers at their concert in East Rutherford, New Jersey, where she joined them to perform "This Is Me" and the Camp Rock 2 song "Wouldn't Change A Thing."
