Songfacts®:

  • This single is about someone who's so devastated by a breakup that only a miracle will enable them to love someone else again. The version by Deniece Williams was a huge success, topping the R&B charts and reaching #10 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it her biggest solo hit until "Let's Hear It For The Boy" two years later.
  • The Teddy Randazzo, Bob Weinstein, and Lou Stallman penned song has an interesting history. It was originally performed by The Royalettes in 1965, where it peaked at #41, and was performed by Laura Nyro in 1971. The cover by Williams is the most successful version to date.
