Songfacts®:

  • This was one of frontman Dave Gahan's three contributions as a songwriter to Sounds of the Universe. He penned it with his regular writing partners Christian Eigner, who is Depeche Mode's regular live drummer, and Andrew Phillpott.
  • Gahan told The Guardian March 21, 2009: This is one of the songs I wrote on the album, a very cynical song about wanting to fill a gaping hole but not knowing what to fill it with. About sometimes the idea of having a hole to feed all being a figment of my imagination when I'm actually fine."
