Songfacts®:

  • Destiny's Child's sophomore album The Writing's on the Wall has a loose theme running through it of the failings of relationships. This groovy song finds Beyoncé confessing to her boyfriend that she hasn't been faithful to him.

He kissed me like a guy could never kiss a girl before
So you know what happened baby I need to say no more

These aren't the words of someone who's especially sorry for her indiscretion.
  • The song was written by Missy Elliott specifically for Destiny's Child after they reached out to work together. Written by one female for four other females, it puts a different slant on a familiar topic.

"It's funny when I think back on it because you rarely get women having to confess. It's always the guy who ends up having to confess," Elliott recalled to Billboard in a 2018 interview. "That was a different kind of twist for a female to be like, 'Look, I basically kicked it with Mike when you was gone, this went down and that went down.'"
